Marriage Counseling: Does your marriage need improvement?

Marriage Counseling

As a psychotherapist and relationship coach who provides marriage counseling to couples in Plantation FL 33317 and the surrounding cities of Weston 33331 , Sunrise 33326, Davie 33324 among others, my clients often want to know if marriage counseling works, if their marriages can be saved. That’s a great question!

How can you know if your marriage can be saved, and if you can feel happy with your spouse again?

Well, the good news is that most marriages can be saved. But saving a marriage for the sake of saving it isn’t my goal. My goal is to help you transform your marriage into a happy, fulfilling one! Sometimes, it’s true that a marriage can’t be saved. For example, if there is physical abuse, or if your spouse has a drug addiction and refuses to get treatment, or if you are with someone who cheats repeatedly. In those cases, it can be almost impossible to transform the marriage. But, that’s not the case with most marriages. No matter how far off track they’ve gotten, with the right guidance and a willingness to want to have a great marriage, most marriages can be transformed into loving, happy relationships again.

The bad news is that it won’t happen magically or overnight, and it will require you to learn new things, try new approaches and grow as a person. But that, in my book, is a pretty cool thing! Because personal growth will increase your own individual happiness. So, you win either way.

Why should you try to save your marriage?

Besides the fact that it’s the right thing to do because you made that “til death do us part” promise, if you transform your marriage you will likely be happier, be healthier, live longer, and even be richer! Yep, studies have shown that people with relatively happy marriages score better on indicators on mental health, physical health, and live longer. They even retire with more money! That’s because good relationships enhance who we are and makes us better.

No matter how difficult your marriage is right now, and even if you feel you’ve tried everything, a skilled marriage counselor can help. Good marriage counselors will help you shift the dynamic you and your spouse have been in for years, and will guide you on the path to re-creating your relationship.

But what if your spouse doesn’t want to work on the marriage or go to marriage counseling?

You can still transform your marriage!

I enjoyed this article, I am looking to work on my marriage and I really have come to a “is there anything to save anymore” point. I know I want to and will continue to try, but its hard when one sided. I have started looking for things I can do without the help of professionals, but just in my everyday life to “fix” things. Thanks for your article.
