Information about Dr. Gagnon’s Maternity Leave:

Please read update section below for updates!

Dear Client/Patient,

As you know, I will be on maternity leave beginning in October (2013).  My last day in the office will be Thursday, September  26th, 2013.  At this time, I am not certain what my return-to-work date will be but I expect to be back sometime between late January 2014 and April 2014.  You will receive a letter and/or email to notify you when I return to work, so please make sure your mailing address is updated in my records.  (If you believe I may have an incorrect mailing or email address for you, simply email my office at [email protected] ).

The attached list of colleagues (scroll below) are familiar with my practice, and will be happy to work with you during my absence.  Of course, you may also choose any provider you like from your own research, or insurance list.

When I return to work, you have the option of coming back to therapy with me, or continuing to see another therapist.  It is completely up to you!

I strongly recommend that you book your appointment with the therapist of your choice as soon as possible to ensure availability.  Once you have done so, please let me know so that you can sign a release of information so that I may assist in coordinating your transition with your new therapist.

During my absence, either myself or my assistant will be monitoring email at least once per week.  If you are an existing client, and need to reach me, just send an email and I will be in touch with you as soon as I can.  Please keep in mind that depending on my medical condition, it could take a week or two for you to receive a call back.  Thus, if you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please either call 911, go to your local emergency room, or contact the Crisis Line of Broward at 954-461-0911.

I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Dr. Chantal Gagnon, Ph.D., LMHC

Update 2/28/14:

I will be back in the office full-time seeing clients and patients April 1, 2014.  You can start calling mid-March to book your appointments!  Exciting changes coming soon: 1) a new website look 2) a Facebook “facelift” 3) new appointment hours including morning, afternoons, evening, and Saturdays!  See you soon!

Update 1/4/14:

I apologize for not updating sooner.  Apparently newborns demand a lot of time and attention!  I delivered in late November.  We had some medical complications, but all is well now and baby is doing fine except for some reflux.  I am recovering from a C-section, and will be having another surgery in a few weeks.

I expect to be back at work seeing patients/clients in April.  Until then, I will be working on billing and administrative tasks sporadically, as my health and my newborn permit.  The best way to reach me is via email.

Update 9/30/13:

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to give you an update: I have unexpectedly developed a rare liver and gallbladder condition call Cholestasis of Pregnancy.  This condition affects 1 in 1000 pregnancies, and is thought to be genetic, but there is very little that is known about it.   Essentially, the pregnancy hormones cause the gallbladder to be unable to properly eliminate bile produced by the liver.  As a result, the bile acids enter the bloodstream. For the mother, the main symptom is intense, uncontrollable fits of itching all over the body.  These attacks are sometimes so severe that some women scratch until they bleed.  The other problems associated with it are possible jaundice, and blood clotting problems.  There is no treatment other than giving birth.  In many cases, women with Cholestasis are induced to deliver early.  For most women, the condition goes away after several weeks post-delivery, but comes back in future pregnancies. For the baby, there is a 15% risk of stillbirth and a risk of other complications, but in general with good medical management that does not happen and most women are still able to deliver healthy babies.  The risk of fetal death increases after 37 weeks, so in many cases, a delivery is induced as soon as the baby’s lungs are mature enough (around 36 to 37 weeks).Over the next 3 weeks, I will be working as quickly as my medical condition allows to finish up all of the August and September billing and tie up any administrative loose ends in the practice.  If you have any questions about billing or related issues, please email me.  After that, I will likely be induced to delivery the baby, and may not be available to respond to questions until some time in December.  (If you have multiple charges on your credit/debit card, that is likely for all of your August and September visits, because you were not billed during that time.)Dr. G.
