7Licensed Mental Health Counselor & Licensed School Psychologist
Mailin Delgado, Ed.S., LMHC, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed School Psychologist with extensive experience helping children, adolescents, young adults, and families navigate emotional, behavioral, developmental, and academic challenges. With a professional background spanning both mental health counseling and school psychology, Mailin brings a unique perspective to understanding the connection between a child’s emotional well-being, behavior, learning, and success at school.
Mailin is currently pursuing a doctorate in Child Development, further expanding her expertise in how children grow, learn, develop relationships, regulate emotions, and respond to the environments around them.
Counseling for Children, Teens & Families
Mailin has worked with children and families in both clinical and educational settings. Her counseling experience includes individual therapy, play-based interventions, social skills training, parent training, behavioral interventions, treatment planning, and collaboration with parents, teachers, and other professionals.
She understands that difficulties at home and difficulties at school often overlap. A child who appears unmotivated, anxious, oppositional, distracted, or overwhelmed may be struggling with much more beneath the surface. Mailin works to understand the whole child rather than focusing on a single symptom or behavior.
Her areas of focus include:
- Anxiety and excessive worry
- ADHD and attention difficulties
- Emotional regulation
- Behavioral concerns
- School-related stress and anxiety
- Learning difficulties and learning disabilities
- Social skills and peer relationships
- Self-esteem and confidence
- Parent-child challenges
- Academic difficulties and school performance
- Life transitions and adjustment
- Parent support and behavioral strategies
School Psychology & Educational Evaluations
Mailin has worked as a school psychologist with Miami-Dade County Public Schools since 2017. Her experience includes administering intellectual, academic achievement, and other assessment measures; analyzing students’ responses to intervention; participating in Student Support Team and eligibility meetings; completing reevaluations; and developing comprehensive reports.
This background gives Mailin an especially strong understanding of the concerns parents frequently bring to our practice: Why is my child struggling in school? Is this ADHD? Could there be a learning disability? Is my child gifted? Why is school so much harder for them than it seems like it should be?
Her combined experience in school psychology and mental health counseling allows her to consider both academic and emotional factors when working with children and families.
Mailin’s earlier work also included classroom observations, behavioral interventions for students with ADHD and learning disabilities, consultation with parents and teachers, and after-school tutoring.
Education & Advanced Training
Mailin earned her Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology, Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology, graduating Cum Laude, from Florida International University.
She is now continuing her education through doctoral studies in Child Development, building upon her years of clinical and school-based experience with advanced study of children’s development across childhood and adolescence.
A Whole-Child Approach
One of Mailin’s greatest strengths is her ability to look at a child from multiple perspectives. She understands the mental health side, the developmental side, and the educational side of the challenges children and teenagers experience.
For parents, that can be particularly valuable. Rather than treating school, behavior, emotions, and family relationships as completely separate issues, Mailin considers how these areas may influence one another.
Her goal is to help children and adolescents better understand themselves, develop practical coping and emotional-regulation skills, strengthen confidence, and experience greater success both at home and at school. She also works collaboratively with parents, recognizing that meaningful progress often happens when families have concrete strategies they can carry into everyday life.
Mailin provides services to families in Plantation, Broward County, and throughout South Florida, with both counseling and school psychology experience informing her work.
